Inhomogeneous cosmological models
as alternatives to dark energy

The Universe, as observed, is very inhomogeneous on almost all scales. However, in a standard approach to cosmology, it is assumed that the Universe can be described by the homogeneous and isotropic Friedmann models. The Friedmann models provide a remarkably precise description of cosmological observations, but to achieve this we need to pay a price -in order to obtain concordance with observations it must be assumed that the Universe is filled with an unknown substance called dark energy. However, this substance has never been observed directly and,since it has very unusual properties, some have begun to ask whether dark energy is real or if it is the description of the Universe which, requires the existence of such an exotic entity, that is invalid.
During my talk I will present inhomogeneous cosmological models and discuss how they can be use to fit cosmological observations without the need for dark energy.

Lanzamiento de Shape 2010

Dear colleagues and friends,

We are pleased to inform you that this year's version of the morpho-kinematic modeling software SHAPE will be released on Friday, June 17.

With new physical modeling features and an improved user interface, Shape 2010 might help more astronomers generate new astrophysical insight.

The new key components are a Physics Module, a Math Module, a web-based User Guide and the unified Desktop Environment.

By allowing you to do basic radiation transfer calculations in 3D the Physics Module takes Shape well beyond the original morpho-kinematic modeling.

We thank all the users that have contributed with their comments, bug reports, feature requests and beta testing. Thank you also to the growing general user base, who have published Shape models (see the ShapeSite for a list).

For those who will attend the "Asymmetrical Planetary Nebulae 5" meeting you can contact us for a live demonstration. There will be a dedicated poster on Shape 2010.
